The Daily Mile / Walk and Talk

What is The Daily Mile?

Simply put, The Daily Mile is 15 minutes wherein children jog or run, at their own pace, during the school day at a time of the teacher’s choosing. The Daily Mile is not Sport or PE, but rather health and wellbeing through physical activity.

This simple, every-day initiative, has been acknowledged for playing a positive role in reducing childhood obesity and is recognised within the UK Government 2018 Childhood Obesity Strategy.

Here at Mowbray, we use the opportunity of the Daily Mile, as an opportunity for Walk and Talk, where children can share any worries or anxieties with an adult.

Why do The Daily Mile?

The Daily Mile's impact can be transformational – improving not only the children’s fitness, but also their concentration levels, mood, behaviour and general wellbeing.

When asked about the Daily Mile, Dylan in Year 5 said, "I love going out and running really fast. It wakes me up in the morning and helps me concentrate in lessons."
